Internet via fiber-to-the-curb

Intel Corp. in San Jose, CA, and Broadband Technologies Inc., Research Triangle Park, NC, are joining forces to let telephone companies deliver Internet access to computer users by means of high-speed residential fiber-to the-curb connections. The two companies plan to work together to develop technology that allows PCs to access the Internet and the World Wide Web at speeds that are significantly higher than those of standard telephone modems. According to Avram Miller, vice president for business development at Intel, "Fiber-to-the-curb, along with other broadband network options, will prove important to future growth. Intel welcomes the chance to work with Broadband Technologies in delivering this technology."
