SpecTran expansion

SpecTran Corp. will begin construction this fall on a $15 million expansion of its Sturbridge, MA, manufacturing plant. "This expansion will add capacity for all phases of optical-fiber manufacture, from preform build to fiber draw," says John E. Chapman, president of SpecTran Communication Fiber Technologies. More than 100 new jobs are expected to be created over the next two years as a result of this expansion. With demand for optical fiber increasing because of its widespread use in telephone systems and computer networks, the company expects to create more than one hundred new jobs over the next two years in its Sturbridge headquarters
