FEBRUARY 29, 2008 -- NTELOS Holdings Corp. (search for NTELOS) has selected Ciena's (search for Ciena) CN 4200 FlexSelect advanced services platform line for its access and metro networks. The CN 4200 chassis has already been deployed in NTELOS' network upgrade, with plans to add the 4200 MC and 4200 RS chassis to support growing customer demand for high-bandwidth and Ethernet-based services such as broadband data, IPTV, and evolving on-demand services.
NTELOS is deploying fiber within the last mile of its network to support video-on-demand and high-definition television services, as well as enhanced data services. Given the expected bandwidth constraints associated with delivering such higher-speed applications, Ciena says, NTELOS chose to deploy the CN 4200 family of products in its metro and access networks to support a more flexible, efficient, and scalable network design that allows the company to layer new services onto a single, converged transport infrastructure with deterministic performance.
According to Ciena, the deployment of the new architecture allows NTELOS to offer enhanced IP-based services while protecting its installed base by leveraging a unified multiservice transport solution for the delivery of 10-Gbit TDM, 10-Gigabit Ethernet, and subwavelength services.
"A central value proposition of our FlexSelect architecture is the seamless migration path it affords our customers as they embrace the packet-centricity of today's networks and services," says Mike Aquino, senior vice president of worldwide sales at Ciena.
