JULY 28, 2008 -- RCN Metro Optical Networks (search for RCN), a division of RCN Corp., has selected Infinera (search for Infinera) Digital Optical Network technology to enhance capacity and capabilities in its mid-Atlantic regional network. The network is designed to provide flexible, scalable, and cost-effective connectivity for RCN Metro's enterprise and carrier customers in this busy communications corridor.
Headquartered in New York, RCN Metro offers businesses and carriers a suite of facilities-based network services. Its network leverages unique rights-of-way from Maine to Virginia and out to Chicago.
Infinera says RCN Metro selected its equipment for the scalable capacity of the Infinera DTN, which will enable it to meet customer demand for large capacity circuits quickly and cost-effectively. The separation of client-side modules from the line-side connectivity on the DTN platform will enable RCN Metro to provision services, including 10-Gbit/sec wavelengths and 10 Gigabit Ethernet services, over the same line-side bandwidth, Infinera adds.
"RCN Metro continually seeks to utilize best-in-breed technology as a way to enhance the services and support we provide to our customers. The Infinera platform we deployed is consistent with this philosophy," said Felipe Alvarez, president of RCN Metro.
"RCN Corporation has a visionary growth strategy, a deep portfolio of assets, and a broad range of customers across its region," said Infinera CEO Jagdeep Singh. "We are pleased to support RCN Metro Optical Networks with a state-of-the-art Infinera network which will enable them to offer their customers the unique speed and flexibility of Digital Optical Networks."
