OCTOBER 22, 2008 -- PGT Photonics S.p.A. (search for PGT Photonics) today announced its City+ CWDM & DWDM Multiservice Platform can carry multi-wavelength traffic over a single fiber strand and increase capacity to a throughput of 175 Gbits/sec using multi-wavelength traffic provisioning.
With the PGT system, it is now possible to use 16 DWDM channels for transporting eight 2.5G or 10G bidirectional traffic patterns over a single fiber, say company representatives. The upgraded platform supports a range of network topologies, including point-to-point on a single fiber, protected point-to-point on two fibers, and one-fiber bidirectional rings.
"The ability to exploit fiber to its full capacity will be a key advantage as operators face the growing demand for next-generation networks," explains Pierluigi Franco, vice president of systems sales and marketing for PGT Photonics. "The flexibility that we have built into our platform will be especially interesting to the enterprise market where the number one priority is to reduce investments in fiber leasing."
PGT says its scalable City+ CWDM & DWDM Platform, based on pluggable optics, offers the flexibility to accommodate all types of datacom and telecom interfaces, including 2.5- and 10-Gbit/sec SDH/SONET; Gigabit Ethernet (GbE); 10-GbE; Fibre Channel; ESCON; and FICON, allowing telecom operators and utility companies to deliver premium services through the development of next-generation networks.
City+ CWDM & DWDM Multiservice Platform is PGT's carrier-class subsystem, which builds on the success of its City8 CWDM platform by adding DWDM capabilities able to scale up to a total capacity of 175 Gbits/sec on a single platform.
The PGT system will be on display this week in the booth of Concept Technologies (Hall #3, Booth #G9-3) at the Exposition and Forum of Information Technologies (InfoCom) taking place in Moscow.
