SEPTEMBER 8, 2008 -- Opto-electronic component, module, and subsystem vendor Civcom (search for Civcom) today announced the availability of a new line of tunable SFF 10G 300-pin MSA transponders.
Civcom says the new products expand its existing Free Light family of tunable transponders, offering equipment manufacturers the high performance they require in a cost-effective SFF device. The SFF transponders are available for immediate delivery, with production devices already supplied to customers for evaluation purposes, Civcom confirms.
The new SFF transponders are available in two models, using either a Lithium Niobate or Indium Phosphide modulator. This gives manufacturers the flexibility to choose the optimal option in accordance with their customers' performance and budgetary requirements, explain Civcom representatives. In addition, the new transponders can be used in conjunction with Civcom's Free-Path family of manageable dispersion compensation modules (M-DCM) as a complete optical offering for any distance.

Civcom's new line of SFF transponders are designed for long-reach DWDM applications. The transponder contains both a 10-Gbit/sec widely tunable transmitter and a wide band receiver. Civcom's 10G SFF interface is compatible with the 300-pin MSA and I2C interface. The SFF transponder uses a widely tunable laser covering the entire C-Band over distances up to 80 kilometers.
