JANUARY 16, 2008 -- Photonic design and simulation tool developer RSoft Design Group (search for RSoft) has released ModePROP 1.0, a new eigenmode expansion propagation package that accounts for both forward and backward propagation and radiation modes. The design tool is being shown at Fiber Optics Expo (FOE) 2008 in Tokyo, Japan, Jan. 16-18, as well as at the San Jose, CA-based Photonics West event from Jan. 23-25. The company adds this software to its Component Design Suite, an environment where all software tools share one common CAD interface. The suite currently includes software packages BeamPROP, FullWAVE, DiffractMOD, BandSolve, GratingMOD, and FemSIM.

ModePROP 1.0 provides a rigorous steady-state solution to Maxwell's equations that is based on the highly stable Modal Transmission Line Theory. This algorithm is capable of a full vector analysis for general structures in 2D and 3D, according to RSoft. The design tool addresses applications including waveguide/fiber based systems, surface normal couplers, plasmonic devices, filters, mode converters, and photonic bandgap applications.

Chief executive officer Robert Scarmozzino says the company continues to look forward to the requirements of future applications. "The role of photonic design automation companies is crucial in maintaining the rapid pace of new technology development in the industry," he says.

ModePROP 1.0, as well as the rest of the RSoft Component Design Suite, is available now for both purchase and a limited time evaluation.
