Hawaii`s GST International and GST Telecom Inc., which are subsidiaries of GST Telecommunications in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada; and Morristown, NJ-based AT&T Submarine Systems are jointly developing an 859-kilometer fiber-optic submarine system that will link Molokai and Lanai with Oahu, Maui, Kauai and the main island of Hawaii. Dubbed Hawaiian Island Fibernet, this $49.6 million system will initially operate at 622 megabits per second.
