Superhighway service

Sprint will offer information superhighway service between North America and Europe via the CANTAT-3 submarine fiber-optic cable, which uses synchronous digital hierarchy technology. The 4650-mile cable transmits at the rate of 2.4 billion bits per second and links Canada to landing points in Iceland, the Faroe Islands, England, Denmark and Germany. Thirty-seven carriers from 26 countries are participating in the system, which was initiated by Teleglobe Canada. Sprint plans to begin service by transiting through Canada to CANTAT-3`s terminal in Pennant Point, Nova Scotia.
