Aura Networks, Inc. announced that Cogent Communications, a next-generation optical Internet service provider, will use Aura Networks' Radiance' Optical Ethernet System for fiber optic provisioning to Cogent's nationwide, end-to-end all optical network.

Cogent Communications delivers ultra-high-speed Internet access to businesses in the multi-tenant marketplace for a flat monthly fee of $1,000. The Cogent solution makes ultra-high-speed Internet access an affordable reality for businesses of all sizes. Its all-optical, end-to-end IP network enables 100 Mbps connectivity, about 100 times faster than T1 capacity (or 65 times faster than the published rate of 1.544 Mbps). Aura Networks' Radiance Optical Ethernet System will enable Cogent to deploy managed fiber connections to its facilities-based customers in office buildings across the United States.

Cogent has ordered approximately $1 million of Radiance metro-access equipment to be delivered over the next 18 months. Cogent has purchased Aura Networks' R5000 Central Service Platform with dual DC power and 100Mbps interfaces to deploy through the risers in Cogent buildings.
