Aura Networks introduces new feature to fiber optic technology

May 15, 2001
May 15, 2001--Aura Networks has enhanced its patented redundant twister technology by adding a new Switch on No Activity Received (SONAR) feature.

Aura Networks has enhanced its patented redundant twister technology by adding a new Switch on No Activity Received (SONAR) feature. The redundant twister provides dual copper and fiber data links to connect LANs, MANs and WANs, automatically switching and rerouting data paths when a link fails. The SONAR feature now also enables it to monitor for traffic.

If a switch has power and a link but no traffic is being passed, the redundant twister will automatically switch to the second path after a selectable period of time. SONAR-enhanced twisters now monitor the secondary link to prevent the unnecessary switching of traffic to the secondary path during periods of light network traffic. This prevents a switch or switch port failure from bringing down a portion or even the entire network.

The SONAR twisters will be available in Q3 2001, and pricing begins at $609.
