NEON Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ:NOPT) will soon be able to offer its carrier customers in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic States a seamless path of telecommunications services to Latin America via its strategic relationship with Progress Telecom of Florida. Progress Telecom has extended its reach into Latin America through a new agreement with Emergia Holding N.V., which is developing a 25,000 kilometer fiber optic network that will link the United States with Central and South America. The agreement allows Progress Telecom to be a preferred provider for telecommunications services in the United States for Emergia Holding N.V. which is based in Uruguay.
Progress Telecom and NEON Communications established a strategic relationship in July of 2000, which allows both parties to become service providers for the other in their respective territories. The combined network stretches from Maine to South Florida, and incorporates approximately 185,000 fiber miles. The relationship allows Progress Telecom and NEON Communications to offer their carrier customers seamless telecommunications services in all the major cities along the seaboard of the Eastern United States, and especially services to second and third tier markets. With the recent announcement by Progress Telecom of its agreement with Emergia Holding N.V., the service corridor now extends into Latin America.
