Mar. 1, 2001--New World Network, claimed to be the only provider of a submarine broadband fiber optic cable network connecting the Americas and the Caribbean, received the final necessary U.S. permits to connect the ARCOS.

New World Network, claimed to be the only provider of a submarine broadband fiber optic cable network connecting the Americas and the Caribbean, received the final necessary U.S. permits to connect the ARCOS (Americas Region Caribbean Ring System) ring in Miami with 14 additional jurisdictions throughout the Caribbean and Latin America. The network is fully funded and is expected to be complete by the end of the third quarter 2001.

The surging growth of communications traffic in Latin America — the fastest growing Internet region in the world — continues to create a large demand for voice, data, wireless and convergence traffic. According to "TeleGeography," a source for international telecom statistics and analysis, the undersea demand for bandwidth capacity reached an unprecedented single-year growth rate in 2000.

This key landing permit reinforces the full commitment and endorsement by the U.S., Florida State and local authorities for the completion of the ARCOS cable network. Customer benefits provided to the 200 million people in the region will be the most advanced technologies, broader and faster connectivity, complete directional signal redundancy, and infinite expandable services.

ARCOS is a 8600-km undersea fiber-optic cable actually offering 15 Gbps of fully redundant capacity with a multiple upgradable design capacity of 960 Gbps. The network is a land festooned configuration that allows for the incorporation of future technologies at a low cost. The ARCOS cable will provide the most advanced communications network in the Caribbean region, connecting the U.S. market with the Bahamas, Turks & Caicos, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Curacao, Venezuela, Colombia, Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Honduras, Belize and Mexico.
