27 May 2003 Stockholm, Sweden Lightwave -- Lumentis AB has announced what it claims is the first all-in-one platform that offers CWDM, DWDM, and SONET/SDH in one single system. The Mentis system shares the same chassis, fiber pair, and network management platform to help reduce operational costs, remove overhead costs, and simplify network growth plans. For the first time, say company representatives, carriers, mobile and network operators do not have to choose between using CWDM or DWDM or pay extra for the full capabilities; Lumentis offers a smooth migration path for each solution with one system.

The new Lumentis platform consists of four elements: DWDM, CWDM, SONET/SDH MuxFeeder, and a network management component that offers easy integration to any existing management system. Thanks to the elimination of amplifiers and the portfolio of single-slot, plug-in boards, Lumentis is the first to feature a true all-in-one optical transport platform where each deployed link will always have the best price-performance without additional overhead costs, claims the company. The customer receives complete system flexibility with the introduction of a compact, single-slot 4-channel board, which can be upgraded step-by-step with plug-in CWDM units.

The Lumentis all-in-one platform is available immediately. For CWDM applications, the Mentis system can carry up to 8 wavelengths on one fiber pair with a reach of up to 80 km. For DWDM applications, up to 40 wavelengths are possible on one fiber pair with a reach of up to 120 km. Both applications can be mixed on the same fiber pair.
