19 May 2003 Providence, RI, and Rochester, NY Lightwave --Ensuring Providence businesses unprecedented access to mission critical data and Internet services, HostTech Communications, a Rhode Island provider of colocation and managed solutions, signed a 10-year fiber-optic network agreement with Fibertech Networks. According to the agreement, HostTech is using Fibertech's downtown fiber ring to connect its two Providence-based data centers.
"This agreement with Fibertech positions us to more efficiently serve Providence businesses with a competitive option for their interconnectivity requirements, as well as ensure our ability to accommodate the future growth for secure data storage and network transmissions needs in the area," said Michael Harrison, president and chief information officer, HostTech. "Fibertech provided us with flexibility, physical reach and virtually unlimited bandwidth capabilities, making them a compelling option over legacy local loop providers."
Fibertech recently completed a 100-mile fiber-optic network in Providence that connects a number of suburban communities from Woonsocket to East Greenwich, including the downtown business district. Fibertech's diverse route, "open-access" networks allow for numerous communications and Internet companies such as HostTech to offer facilities-based services. In addition to communications carriers, Fibertech is building private dark fiber networks for direct end users such as large corporate, education, healthcare and government agencies, who are looking to manage their own network facilities.
Headquartered in Rochester, NY, Fibertech has networks operational Providence; Springfield and Worcester, MA; Syracuse, Rochester, Buffalo, Binghamton and Albany, NY; Indianapolis, IN; Columbus, OH; Hartford and New Haven, CT; and Pittsburgh, PA.
