18 June 2003 Allen, TX Lightwave -- Fiber Systems International recently introduced its new Model 1300 Optical Loss Test Set for TFOCA (Tactical Optic Fiber Connector Assembly), TFOCA-II, MIL-C-28876, and standard hermaphroditic fiber-optic connectors.

The new integrated test set is specifically designed to address the test and verification of multi-fiber cable assemblies. This advanced, fully functional test set includes two optical sources and two power meters in a single unit with a integral interface connector.

The basic Model 1300 Optical Loss Test Set Kit includes:
• Model 1300 Optical Loss Test Set
• Loopback plug
• AC power adapter/recharger
• Four interchangeable AC adapter plugs
• Ruggedized, foam-filled case
• Option 1: Cleaning kit with 50 optic cleaning pads, 50 swabs, and foam cleaning fluid
• Option 2: Breakout Cable and fault finder (Plug to ST, SC or FC breakout cable).

The light source/power meter is housed in a rugged handheld enclosure with a rubber holster and operates on four rechargeable 1.5-V AA batteries.

A 90-264 V, 47-63 Hz AC adapter with four interchangeable international-standard plugs (US, Europe, UK, and Australia) is also provided.

An LCD graphic display shows loss through the entire cable assembly. The system takes the guesswork out of insertion loss testing for fiber-optic connectors in use today by both military and commercial applications, say company representatives.

Major features of Model 1300 Optical Loss Test Set:

• TFOCA, TFOCA-II, MIL-C-28876 and standard hermaphroditic connector input
• Automatic loop back testing of cable assemblies
• Two modes: dBm and dB with relative store
• Easy-to-read graphic display
• Input range: +5 to -70 dBm (InGaAs detector)
• Two detectors; digital calibration (1300 nm)
• Approximately 18 hours battery life
• Universal AC power adapter/recharger with four interchangeable AC adapters
• Batteries included
• Ergonomic, tactile rubber keys
• Protective holster with pedestal
• Two 1300-nm LED sources, -23 dBm into 62.5 µ mv/125 µ mv multimode fiber
• Multiple shut off modes
• Includes loop back plug
• Two years calibration
• Includes carrying case

Initial sales and deliveries of the Model 1300 Optical Loss Test Set have already been made. The retail list price for the base test set unit with carrying case is $3,750.
The Model 1300 Optical Loss Test Set also includes an optional Cleaning kit with 50 optic cleaning pads, 50 swabs, and foam cleaning fluid.
