NetTest releases a large bay adaptor and a 50-dB OTDR module for the CMA 5000 Multi-layer Test Platform
7 November 2003 Utica, NY Lightwave-- NetTest, a worldwide provider of testing, monitoring and management equipment, today announced the availability of a large bay adaptor, and a 5254 50-dB optical time-domain reflectometer (OTDR) module for the CMA 5000 Multi-layer Test Platform.
The CMA 5000 with large bay adapter further promotes the concept of the multi-layer test platform by expanding the number of testing modules that can be installed simultaneously. It features a choice of AC, -48VDC or +24VDC inputs to ensure abundant power for any module combination and can physically hold up to six bays worth of modules eliminating the time consuming step of powering down and swapping modules between tests. With the large bay adaptor, module combinations such as polarization mode dispersion and chromatic dispersion or Gigabit Ethernet, optical transport (SONET/SDH) and OTDR can be installed simultaneously creating a customized test set for any application.
The large bay adapter also features a Pentium III 700-MHz processor, 512-Mbytes RAM, an integrated CD R/W drive and a Windows operating system allowing it to serve double duty as powerful test set and as a very capable laptop computer.
Offering the highest dynamic range in the industry, the 5254 50-dB OTDR module enables carriers, network installers, and cable companies to test ultra-long haul networks in excess of 250 km for C-band transmission. This extended testing range not only allows longer links to be tested, but allows medium length metro links to be tested with lower pulse widths therefore increasing event resolution.
The 5254 module achieves 34 dB at 1 us, which translates into the ability to test over 150 km with a dead zone of just 150 m providing excellent range with superior resolution.
The 50-dB OTDR module is also useful in testing splitter based fiber to the premise and passive optical networks that incorporate high losses induced by optical splitters.
