10 November 2003 Miami Lightwave-- AESP, Inc., today announced the expansion of the Signamax Network Connectivity product line to include a new line of managed media converters, along with the rack mount chassis system that supports them.

Media converters allow data carried over copper wire to be carried over fiber-optic cable, and vice versa. This allows a company's data network to extend over greater distances than a conventional copper cabling plan. In addition, the security and electrical interference rejection properties of fiber-optic cable can then be realized using the company's existing copper- based switches and hubs. Managed media converters allow the status and alarms of the media converters in the network to be monitored from a central location. This allows a company or carrier to minimize its operating costs by eliminating unnecessary technician visits to a site that is not the source of the problem.

"Enterprise businesses, inter-exchange and local carriers, and Internet service providers require managed systems to reduce the cost of service maintenance for the users of their networks," remarked Steve Daily, vice president of AESP and general manager of the company's Signamax division. "These types of businesses have purchased our media converters for smaller applications in the past, but they also require remote management capabilities for general use in their core operations. With the introduction of our managed media converter system, we can now serve those needs.

"We believe that these new products broaden our product offerings sufficiently to allow us to compete for a larger share of the estimated $150 million annualAmedia conversion market."

AESP designs, manufactures, markets and distributes network connectivity products under the brand name Signamax Connectivity Systems as well as customized solutions for original equipment manufacturers worldwide. The company offers a complete line of active networking and premise cabling products for copper and fiber-optic based networks, as well as computer connectivity products.
