19 March 2003 -- FSO transmission system supplier PAV has developed PAVLight to provide scalable bandwidths from 1.54Mbit/s to 1Gbit/s.

The wish to achieve quick and cost-effective provision of high-bandwidth communications led to the development of the PAVLight range.

The system provides a high speed broadband wireless connection over distances up to 4km. Its flexibility make it a suitable tool for network planners aiming to solve connectivity bottlenecks, and it can be installed "in hours rather than days", the company says.

PAV technical director Paul Widdrington said, "With thousands of installations worldwide in carrier, mobile and technical enterprise markets, we really do understand customers' needs, and with increased demand for scalable and manageable bandwidth we were keen to develop this new product.

"Unique to PAVLight is its modular architecture, developed by our highly experienced research and development team, and this modular approach really puts PAV ahead of the competition."

PAVLight features Advanced Digital Modules to provide the maximum variation of FSO solutions. Performance and availability are enhanced - even in differing climatic conditions - through the use of unique Holographic Light Shaping, Automatic Noise Reduction and Clock/Data Recovery circuiting.

Connection is simple, utilising a standard multi-mode fibre optic connection to provide standard 10 Base F, 100 Base F or 100 Base F interfaces to the customer's network - or allowing a carrier to implement an E1/T1 or multiple E1/T1 aggregated system. Capacity can be upgraded at a later date thanks to the modularity.
