MCM Telecom (Mexico City, Mexico) selected Lucent Technologies (Murray Hill, NJ) to install a complete fiber-optic network for voice, data, and private-line services in Mexico. MCM Telecom projected an investment of $50 million for the initial construction in Mexico City`s metropolitan area. Connectivity to the commercial districts of Mexico City will be accomplished through a 130-km fiber-optic ring with Lucent`s fiber-optic cable. After completion of its Mexico City network, MCM plans to build out similar networks in Monterrey and Guadalajara, projecting an investment of $100 million for the entire project.
