Ethernet card

The Ethernet Inverse Mapper (eim) module, designed for use with this company`s s/dms TransportNode OC-3 products, provides wide-area bandwidth transport in DS-1 increments, enabling Ethernet traffic over sonet facilities. The module connects directly to an Ethernet lan through a standard 10Base-T lan connector, rather than through the more traditional and expensive wan port. Once the eim is connected to the lan, bandwidth can be increased or decreased remotely by the service provider. The unit converts Ethernet traffic into atm cells using the atm Forum`s standard, allowing traffic to terminate on another eim module, or on any atm service-access multiplexer or atm switch supporting the ima standard. Integral to the module is a multiport transparent-learning bridge managed by a lan administrator`s existing snmp-based management system.
