10 October 2002 -- EdisonTel, the Italian telecommunications company controlled by Edison S.p.A, has selected RAD Data Communications' LA-140 and LA-110 ATM integrated access devices (IADs) to deploy ISDN voice and Ethernet over ADSL links for small and medium-sized business customers throughout Italy.

In addition, EdisonTel will deploy RAD IADs to provide Circuit Emulation System (CES) leased line services over its ATM/SHDSL infrastructure. The equipment is being supplied and integrated by C.I.E. Telematica, RAD's Milan-based authorised distributor.

"The unbundling of the Local Loop in Italy has created tremendous opportunities for EdisonTel to pioneer VoDSL deployment and attract many new business customers looking for high-quality voice and Internet access over a single ADSL link," said Ronen Almog, Regional Sales Manager for Italy at RAD Data Communications.

"RAD's integrated access devices, which support ISDN voice as well as Ethernet in a compact, cost-effective unit, deliver the required features and quality at a competitive price."

"EdisonTel has already deployed several hundred LA-140 units, with hundreds of additional LA-110 devices expected to be installed shortly," says Fabrizio Bellezza, EdisonTel's Technical Director. "We are satisfied with the quality and performance of the RAD equipment and the service and support we have received from CIE Telematica."

EdisonTel's coverage area for the ADSL service varies between 1.2 and 1.5km, with available bandwidth on the links ranging from 512kbit/s to 2Mbit/s in adaptive mode.
