18 December 2002 -- Corning Cable Systems, Munich, Germany, has been awarded a contract by the Public Power Corporation of Greece (DEH) for the turnkey construction of a national optical fibre network.
The new PPC network consists of three rings, totaling 1,700 cabled kilometers across Greece. Corning Cable Systems Project/Services Division will be responsible for delivery of the network. This will include network design, cable installation, fiber splicing and network commissioning activities.
The network will be implemented using Corning Cable Systems Optical Ground Wire cable (OPGW), manufactured by Norddeutsche Seekabelwerke GmbH & Co. KG, a wholly owned subsidiary of Corning Incorporated. The network will use a mix of Corning LEAF and SMF-28 fibres.
