4 December 2002 -- California-based Santel Networks, a developer of high-speed PHY IC products for optical networks, is opening a European regional sales office in Vimercate, Italy.

Santel says it has developed the first commercially available 10Gbit/s electronic dispersion compensator (EDC) with CDR-D. The European office will provide a centralised location to meet the customer service demands of telecom systems vendors and module manufacturers. "The complexity of our business necessitates local support as well as strong, real-time communication with our customers," said CEO Stefan Braken-Guelke.

Santel has also hired Domenico Fumagalli to lead its European operation as European Sales Director, reporting to John Keating, vice president of marketing and sales. "We are counting on Domenico to develop our customer base in Europe, manage the local business and coordinate field support activities," said Keating. Previously, Fumagalli worked at Multilink Technology Corp, Motorola Semiconductor Spa, and Hitachi Europe's Electronic Division.
