5 November 2002 -- Megabeam, which claims to be the first pan-European wireless high-speed Internet access provider, has contracted Interoute to provide network connectivity throughout western Europe.
The agreement accelerates Interoute's programme of network availability and high bandwidth connectivity to support the expansion of Megabeam's wireless hotspots across Europe. These WLAN hotspots allow Megabeam's customers to remotely access their corporate networks, email and the Internet.
By co-locating important services elements with the Interoute IP network, Megabeam will be able to provide the most comprehensive wireless coverage in Europe using a single homogenous network.
The service is supported by industry-acclaimed service guarantees and additional network functionality provided by Interoute; once again underlining Interoute's commitment to wireless hotspot service providers.
"The agreement with Interoute reflects our aim to deliver the highest service level agreements for our customers," said Scott Layman, COO, Megabeam. "Interoute has one of the largest IP networks, spanning some 45 cities across Europe, so our customers will benefit from a single network provider who can manage our expanding network of hotspots both now and into the future."
Interoute chairman Jim Kinsella, said: "This agreement with Megabeam signifies our intent to offer a scalable platform for wireless access solutions throughout Europe. With our intelligent, customer-controlled IP network, we are further enhancing our position in the unwired world."
Megabeam's high-speed wireless service, initially based on 802.11b technology operating in the 2.4GHz band, has been three years in the making with detailed studies and pilots carried out across Europe.
