Opto Speed ships 43-Gbit/sec receivers for line interface, client interface, and VSR applications

November 7, 2002--Opto Speed today announced the expansion of its 40-Gbit/sec optical receiver front end module portfolio for line-interface, client-interface, and very short reach (VSR) applications (< 2 km).

"This suite of unique receivers puts us in a position to play a major role in the 40-Gbit/sec markets as we address the most promising VSR and network interface applications with our state-of-the-art modules," contends Dr. Dieter Huber, product line manager of optical front-ends.

The differential receiver modules are designed in compliance with the multi-source agreement announced in March 2002 by Fujitsu and JDS Uniphase. They comprise in a small footprint package a PIN detector, a post amplifier, and a limiting amplifier with differential outputs, all monolithically integrated on a single InP chip. The monolithic integration allows a large differential output signal of 800-V/W, which can directly be fed into a DEMUX/CDR. Additional electronic post amplifiers can therefore be omitted.

The RX40D0-130 is designed for very short reach (< 2 km) transponder applications in central offices. The RX400D0-230 is optimised for line-interface applications, where the signals are optically preamplified. And for client-interfaces of transport systems, the RX40D0-530 with a conversion gain of 800 V/W has been developed. Sampling has already begun and larger volume will be available in the beginning of 2003.
