Pandatel AG launches new 155-Mbit/sec multiplexer

Nov. 6, 2002
November 6, 2002--Pandatel AG has developed a new multiplexer, the S-MUX 155, that can transmit and multiplex data from up to five applications simultaneously.

For connecting small company networks and service providers, Pandatel AG has developed a new multiplexer, the S-MUX 155, which can transmit and multiplex data from up to five applications simultaneously. On the interface side, four E1/T1 interfaces and a 10/100BaseTX interface are available. The multiplexed signal on the line corresponds to an STM-1/OC-3c signal from the SONET/SDH standard. The S-MUX 155 enables point-to-point connections over one fiber-optic line or over SDH/SONET networks.

The convenient, web-based user interface makes it easy to operate, at the same time providing all the necessary configuration options, claim company representatives. All necessary modules for comprehensive device and port testing are already integrated, giving users the ability to do troubleshooting remotely.

Data enters and leaves through five RJ45 connections on the interface side and an SC connecter on the line side. They are combined into one stream of data at 155-Mbits/sec (STM-1 or OC-3c standard) in order to utilize the entire Fast Ethernet bandwidth of 100 Mbits/sec. This bundled stream of data can be transmitted over distances up to 50 km, thanks to the 1300-nm singlemode laser.

The S-MUX 155 has been designed as a standalone device. For mounting in 19" rack systems a frame is available that can hold up to seven S-MUX 155 devices.

"The S-MUX 155 is designed mainly for small and medium-sized businesses," explains Marcus Mueller, director of marketing at PANDATEL. "It will also, however, be of interest to carriers and service providers who want to offer expanded services to their customers--such as simultaneous transmission of voice messages with E1/T1 transmission rates and Ethernet/IP network services with a full 100 Mbits/sec," he adds.

The S-MUX 155 will be available starting in November 2002.
