15 November 2002 -- Communications service providers today are intently focused on integrating their software systems, data bases and business processes to decrease operating costs and improve customer service says a report from Yankee Group.
Integration Technologies: The Glue That Binds OSS, Data and Business Processes finds that because service providers are trying to leverage both legacy systems and new software system purchased over the past three years, they are implementing technologies that more effectively integrate these heterogeneous software assets together.
"The communications industry is entering a phase where the complexities of delivering and monitoring services will increase by orders of magnitude," says report author Sharon Ballard, Yankee Group Telecom Software Strategies analyst explains.
"The growth of wireless and cable services, new investments in third-party OSSs/BSSs, increasing demand for real-time delivery of services and higher service quality will necessitate tighter and more streamlined integration between software, hardware devices, data and business processes".
With wireline, wireless and cable operators all competing for the same customers, the need for CSPs to control costs and improve service quality has never been greater. By investing in integration technologies, CSPs hope to address these key business initiatives.
