27 August 2002 -- Uni2 France Telecom Group subsidiary Al-Pi Telecomunicacions - a Barcelona-based service provider for public entities, corporations and small-to-medium enterprises in the Cataluna region of Spain - has chosen Atrica Inc's carrier-class Optical Ethernet System as the foundation for its next-generation metropolitan area network. Al-Pi's Optical Ethernet network is now deployed and operational.
Using Atrica's Optical Ethernet System which includes the A-8000 Series Optical Ethernet Core Switches, the A-2100 Optical Ethernet Edge Switch and ASPEN, Atrica's Service Platform for Ethernet Networks, Al-Pi's metro network infrastructure is delivering a new set of data services to its customer base. These include a point-to-point Ethernet virtual private line service that provides improved performance over Al-Pi's traditional 64kbit/s leased-line service at the same price point, multi-point transparent LAN services, Internet access with value-added VPN, security and firewall services, and circuit emulation services for PBX interconnection.
"Key features like sub-50ms resiliency, carrier-class QoS, MPLS-based traffic engineering and easy service provisioning overcame any reservations we had about using Ethernet as the basis for our metro network," said Al-Pi CEO Aime Brial.
