After completing the initial 117-mi backbone of a new fiber-optic network in the Cleveland, OH, metropolitan area, Teleport Communications Group Inc. (tcg) anticipates the availability of sophisticated digital-switched services by the fourth quarter of this year. tcg currently offers customers private line services that offer a dedicated link between multiple customer locations for voice and data applications, as well as special access services for connectivity to long-distance carriers. The Synchronous Optical Network operation in Cleveland will provide a self-healing, redundant ring to deliver the local services. The network links the major commercial centers in the Cleveland area. tcg is developing similar networks in Cincinnati and Columbus, OH.
