The Telecom Cables Div. of Ericsson Cables AB, Hudiksvall, Sweden, and dsc Communications A/S of Denmark have signed a $6.6 million contract for submarine cable systems to be deployed between Sweden and Finland and Sweden and Lithuania. Telia AB of Sweden will install the cables. Other partners in the project include Alands Mobiltelefon AB and Telivo Ltd. of Finland; Eesti Telefon AS of Estonia; Lietuvos Telekomas of Lithuania; and GN Great Northern Telegraph Co. of Denmark. The cable systems will have one active and one redundant 2.5-Gbit/sec transmission system and should be operational by fall.
