vps Communications Inc. (vpsc) of Richmond, VA, has become a partner in a multistate, 2800-mi fiber-optic network that covers the Carolinas and parts of Georgia. vpsc joined cfn of Cornelius, NC, a limited-liability company that consists of DukeNet, CaroNet, PalmettoNet, and Access/On. cfn markets the collective telecommunications capacity of its partners to wholesale customers, such as long-distance, local, wireless, and Internet service provider companies, and provides a centralized billing and service location. vpsc will connect its Virginia fiber-optic network with CaroNet`s network in North Carolina by January 1, 1998.
