May 26, 2005 High Wycombe, UK -- Cable & Wireless, an international provider of voice, data, and IP services, has awarded a metro Ethernet contract to Tellabs, in a move expected to accelerate provider's Next Generation Network (NGN) deployment. The provider says it chose the company's AssuredEthernet platform to provide carrier-class Ethernet services, while enabling significant operational cost-savings, as well as the consolidation of new and existing customers onto a single network.
"This product enables seamless migration to new IP services, consolidating five separate technologies onto one platform," contends Frank Mount, director of operations for Cable and Wireless.
Significant growth in customer demand for broadband and IP services is the driving force for the deployment, according to the provider. The provider says the platform, and its 8800 multi-service router series in particular, enables the deployment with: Quality of Service to deliver mission-critical Ethernet applications and differentiated service level agreements; seamless migration of Ethernet, Frame Relay, TDM, ATM and IP onto a single, converged platform; and high-availability hardware and software upgrades.
"Through this agreement Cable & Wireless will realize the reliability and flexibility of the Tellabs AssuredEthernet solution," concludes Patrick Dolan, vice president and general manager, EMEA for Tellabs.
