STL names new commercial, R&D heads for its optical connectivity business

Nov. 27, 2023
The company claims to bring the company onto the podium of the top three global optical players.

STL has appointed David De Craemer and Tomasz Bednarczyk as Global R&D Head, Optical Connectivity Business and VP of Global R&D Head, Optical Connectivity Business--two executives that it says will support the company's growth ambitions.

Each of these executives comes to their new roles with plenty of fiber connectivity experience.

David De Craemer brings over 25 years of industry experience from TE Connectivity and CommScope.

Tomasz Bednarczyk has worked with Corning for 18 years in various areas, such as R&D, Finance and PLM.

Paul Atkinson, CEO of STL's Optical Networking division, said these appointments “will certainly optimize our connectivity operations, driving innovation and growth and generating impact for customers."

According to STL, the new appointments, consisting of Binod Balachandran, Sam Leeman, and Ryan Chappell, will further strengthen the management team.

These additions to the company come as STL looks to enhance its position in the fiber and optical connectivity market segments, something it has been improving in recent years. In 2020, STL acquired Italian Optotec, fully integrating its optical connectivity products and design engineering capabilities into its sector activities. This enables the company to create custom, scalable connectivity solutions to simplify field installations and speed up the fiber deployment process.

While the total available market for optical connectivity is worth approximately $10 billion, there are numerous deployment challenges, including tailoring solutions to regional needs, speed of product development, and time to market. STL claims its established design and innovation centers in three countries—India, North America and Europe—positions the company to respond to these challenges.
