JANUARY 31, 2007 -- Alcatel-Lucent (search for Alcatel-Lucent) has provided, along with systems integration partner Fiberdata, optical access technology to Jönköping Energi, a Swedish electric company. Alcatel-Lucent's GPON gear allows Jönköping Energi to deliver triple-play services (voice, video, and data) while realizing the benefits of increased reliability and lower maintenance expenses.
Jönköping Energi is the local utility in Jönköping area (300 km south of Stockholm). Jönköping Energi not only supplies energy and energy services, but also broadband access to the inhabitants and companies in the region. Its network (WetterNet) is based on a fiber infrastructure, and is operated as an "open network" where several ISPs are delivering their services. Jönköping Energi is one of the first utility providers in Sweden to announce deployment of a GPON fiber access network, with initial deployments having begun in the fourth quarter of 2006.

Jönköping Energi is deploying the Alcatel-Lucent 7342 ISAM FTTU. Chosen by more than 125 service providers worldwide, the Alcatel-Lucent ISAM family of products is designed to minimize complexity and ensure profitability as service providers transform their broadband access networks to support full triple play service adoption.
Together, Alcatel-Lucent and Fiberdata have delivered broadband access and MPLS equipment into more than 35 networks in Sweden.
