French communications technology developer Sagemcom has launched a series of PON gateways for GPON and EPON "and preparing for 10-Gig EPON." The gateways will support gigabit-speed connections to support such services as IPTV, RF video, WiFi services with Wave 2 802.11ac, and voice-over-IP (VoIP).

The units leverage Sagemcom's middleware to support both high broadband speeds and fast in-home networking, the company says. They include:

  • Fast 5360, a wireless home gateway with integrated SFP module
  • Fast 5655, a GPON wireless home gateway with RF overlay
  • Fast 5656, an EPON wireless gateway.

"Our customers are demanding integrated devices supporting greater than 1Gibabit speeds that can both satisfy their subscribers' bandwidth requirements and be easily managed in their ecosystem. Leveraging a common software platform widely deployed and our experience integrating multiple technologies in a single cost-effective product, I am pleased to announce the availability of this new portfolio," said Ahmed Selmani, deputy CEO of Sagemcom Broadband.
