SEPTEMBER 25, 2008 -- Enablence Technologies Inc. (search for Enablence), supplier of fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP) equipment for residential and business services, this week announced the addition of the ITU G.984 GPON standard-compliant ONT-G888 series optical network terminals (ONTs) to its TRIDENT7 product line. The product is now commercially available and shipping to customers.

Enablence says the TRIDENT7 Universal Access platform is the industry's only FTTx platform capable of delivering standards-based support of ITU G.984 GPON, IEEE 802.3 GE-PON (EFM PON), and IEEE 802.3 point-to-point triple-play services from a common platform.

"The ITU G.984 GPON standard-compliant ONT-G888 joins our IEEE GE-PON and point-to-point standards-compliant ONT-E888 as part of our ONT lineup specific to multiple dwelling unit [MDU] applications," reports Arvind Chhatbar, CEO for Enablence. "Multiple dwelling units, such as residential apartment buildings, are a big part of fiber-to-the-home networks. Enablence has always believed in developing products specific to these MDU applications, which may be managed as one unit rather than providing makeshift solutions where multiple single-family or business ONTs are bundled together."

The ONT-G888 is an environmentally hardened ONT that may be mounted either outside or inside the customer premises. By providing eight Ethernet ports, eight POTS ports, and eight RF video ports in a single ONT element, the ONT-G888 provides more than enough capability to deliver complete triple-play data, voice, and video services for MDU applications, claims the company. Enablence's patented integrated RF return also is available as an option, which supports RF return over the same single fiber as all other services without additional wavelengths.

Enablence says the TRIDENT7 platform is already being deployed by over 70 customers in North America, Europe, Asia, and Oceania.
