June 12, 2002--Iamba Networks, provider of multi-service optical access solutions, has announced that its iAxelent platform is now available for customer trials.

Iamba Networks, provider of multi-service optical access solutions, has announced that its iAxelent platform is now available for customer trials.

iAxelent enables carriers and service providers to deliver optimally packaged data, voice, and video services with Service Level Agreements (SLA) and guaranteed Quality of Service (QoS) for business, residential, and feeder/backhaul applications (FTTBiz, FTTH and FTTCab/C/B), say company representatives. It is a 'service aware' platform, enabling carriers to provide data-centric services including LAN interconnection, multi-site connectivity, private networks/VPN, premium Internet access, remote storage connectivity, and video. iAxelent's multi-protocol support and optical access interfaces enable carriers to employ best-fit Access Network topologies (Point-to-Point, Point-to-Multipoint, and Access Rings) and seamlessly connect to legacy metro/core networks (TDM and ATM) as well as next-generation networks (Ethernet and IP/MPLS).

iAxelent's architecture presents an integration of optical networking, 'wire-speed' protocol processing, and IP handling. It simplifies the Access Network, claim company representatives, by integrating functionality of edge switches, aggregation routers, access routers, and bandwidth managers into a single access platform.

Iamba also recently released the XL1000, a modular Central Office/Point-of-Presence concentrator with plug-in service boards, and the XL200, one of a family of Optical Network Terminators (ONT).

The XL1000 performs traffic distribution, aggregation, and grooming using intelligent switching and forwarding of multi-protocol traffic. Utilizing plug-in service boards, the XL1000 connects with PON, SONET/SDH, and Gigabit Ethernet network interfaces, and enables simultaneous support of a mix of Packet/Frame/Cell/Circuit interfaces and services.

The XL200 business ONT provides User Network Interfaces (UNI), using a fully protected PON uplink. It connects subscribers with the core network to provide advanced services over IP, Ethernet, and TDM.
