April 4, 2005 Minneapolis, MN -- Optical Solutions (OSI) today announced that its FiberPath 500 FTTP system is being deployed at the Laughlin Ranch development in Bullhead City, Arizona. The development, which is eventually expected to have over 40,000 homes, is presently using the system to deliver voice, video, and data services to approximately 100 subscribers. Greenfield Communications, an FTTH operations firm, is managing the deployment.
"Laughlin Ranch is a very desirable place to live and the developer wanted the most advanced communications and entertainment system available to make the development even more attractive," explains Mike Powers, president and CEO of Greenfield Communications. "We successfully deployed the FiberPath system in another premier development in California, so we already had confidence in Optical Solutions' technology and customer support."
OSI says its FiberPath 500 system, employing Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON) technology, provides the necessary bandwidth for delivering advanced voice, video, and data services, while effectively future-proofing the access network infrastructure. Fully compliant with ITU/FSAN standards, the system supports advanced services such as IPTV, transparent LAN, and greater than 100-Mbit/sec data speeds, as well as multiple carrier-class voice services. According to the company, the system's passive optical architecture saves operations costs by eliminating high-maintenance active electronics in the outside plant.
"We are very pleased that Greenfield Communications has again chosen the FiberPath system for its latest development project," remarks Mike Dagenais, president and CEO of Optical Solutions."By installing GPON today, Greenfield eliminates the cost and inconvenience of incremental upgrades required by other bandwidth-limited architectures, such as DLC or BPON systems."
