June 14, 2005 Livermore, CA -- Alloptic, a provider of Gigabit Ethernet Passive Optical Networks (GEPONs), announced that China NetCom (CNC) is deploying the company's access network platform to provide service to high-rise multi-dwelling units, as well as to provide backhaul services for CNC's WiFi and SCDMA wireless networks.
"Alloptic's GEPON solution allows us the ability to cost-effectively expand our services into new areas. With the world relying on an IP environment, a new operator like us with no existing copper loop infrastructure can effortlessly deploy the Alloptic Ethernet network," comments Mou Jun, general manager of Sichuan CNC.
CNC Sichuan is a new operator in China's Sichuan provinces that provides wire-line telecom and mobile services to the provinces' population of 80 million. The Alloptic platform leverages a standard ITU PON architecture, while delivering a gigabit of bandwidth. With a native ability to support traditional TDM voice over an Ethernet-based platform, the company says the platform provides telephone services while seamlessly supporting next-generation services such as IP HDTV.
"Alloptic's wide array of optical network units allows us to quickly take service into new MDU buildings and residential communities," continues Jun. "The gigabit of bandwidth allows us to look beyond residential access to such applications as backhauling traffic from our SCDMA towers and WiFi access points to our core network."
"We are pleased to be working with CNC as they roll out service within the rapidly expanding Sichun province," concludes George S. K. Chow, managing director of Asia Pacific for Alloptic. "In the highly competitive Chinese market, carriers are leveraging Alloptic's GEPON network to provide the bandwidth required for triple-play services, while minimizing the amount of fiber in the field in order to deliver those services."
