STL offers Programmable FTTx powered by VMware

STL (NSE: STLTECH) says its entry into the software-defined access network market, the VMware-based Programmable FTTx (pFTTX), is now generally available. pFTTX is now listed on VMware Telco Cloud Infrastructure 2.0 OpenStack Edition Platform and aims to meet the needs of operators for an open, disaggregated approach to large fiber to the home, cell site, and business networks.

pFTTx solution enables open cloud-native networks by disaggregating the software from the hardware layer, says STL. The approach enables scalability, faster time-to-market, and reduced total cost of ownership (TCO) in a variety of scenarios, including the delivery of broadband to rural and underserved areas, the company adds.

"pFTTX is a cloud-based access network solution that radically elevates the network service providers' business models,” said Chris Rice, CEO of access solutions at STL. “Leveraging VMware's cloud platform, pFTTx becomes a platform that helps roll out XGS-PON and also integrate with third-party applications to enhance the QoE and network performance. This helps the customers with better TCO, new revenue streams and improves operational efficiency."
