ADTRAN expands functionality of Mosaic OS for software-defined access networks

ADTRAN, Inc. (NASDAQ:ADTN) has expanded the capabilities of its Mosaic Operating System (OS), which is designed to help enable software-defined access networks. The enhanced capabilities include a new and updated Network Configuration Protocol component for integration into second generation DPUs for multi-vendor interoperability.

The enhanced capabilities include a new and updated Network Configuration Protocol component for integration into second generation DPUs for multi-vendor interoperability.

“This latest development with our Mosaic software suite is truly exciting because it works as the industry always imagined—with dynamic, open network elements. Whether it is a Mosaic networking function covering carrier-grade NETCONF, vOMCI, or analytics, these modules can all be seamlessly ported to open Linux platforms for integration with white box hardware solutions,” says ADTRAN Director of Mosaic Portfolio Chris Thompson.

A commitment to open, software-defined access networks under the Mosaic umbrella was a major theme at the company’s 2018 CONNECT Press & Analyst Event, held this week at ADTRAN’s headquarters in Huntsville, AL. This includes the company’s new role as a partner with the Open Networking Foundation (ONF) in the development of reference designs for the SDN Enabled Broadband Access (SEBA) initiative, which derived from the ONF’s work on Residential Central Office Re-architected as a Datacenter (R-CORD; see “ONF puts new strategic plan pieces in place”).

ADTRAN touted as well the traction its Mosaic Subscriber Experience suite has gained in the market since its introduction during the first quarter of this year. The suite offers virtualized microservices with open APIs and operational logic, including a device manager, whole home mesh Wi-Fi, data analytics insight, and automated services activation. More than 50 North American network operators have either trialed or deployed Mosaic Subscriber Experience applications, the company asserts.
