The Calix E9-2 Intelligent Edge System features the latest in access network technologies, NG-PON2, as well as functionality not typically seen in an access system. This includes Layer 3 routing, policy, and instrumentation. By consolidating these functions into a single system, service providers can converge their disparate residential, mobile, and business services networks into one, dramatically reducing the total cost of ownership of the network by as much as 80% as stated by Lee Hicks of Verizon.

Some of the key benefits of the E9-2 architecture are:

  • Reduced need to purchase new edge routers and aggregation switches to keep up with the bandwidth generated by NG-PON2
  • Consolidation of the management of the network by reducing the systems that must be provisioned and managed
  • Combined functionality allows for easy automation of the full end-to-end provisioning of subscriber turn-up and service creation.

Judge's comment: Future proof in a word. This product allows the operator to satisfy all distribution transport requirements into a single solution.
