Vodafone and Deutsche Glasfiber Business GmbH have signed a partnership agreement to deploy and operate fiber broadband networks in Düsseldorf. The partners say they will team to roll out fiber-optic cable in 19 areas to deliver gigabit broadband services to businesses in the city.
The agreement calls for Deutsche Glasfaser Business to take responsibility for network planning and deployment of the fiber cable network. Vodafone will provide the fiber broadband services and operate the fiber-optic network. The companies expect to begin offering services of up to 1 Gbps to "several thousand companies and traders" (in the words of the announcement) sometime next year. The services will target small and medium-sized businesses, with deployment prioritizes set based on expected service demand.
Deutsche Glasfiber expects to use existing conduit and pipes for as much of the fiber-optic network deployment as possible. Where new pathways will be required, the company plans to use low-profile trenching methods where feasible.
