NOVEMBER 10, 2009 -- Alcatel-Lucent has introduced its Triple Play Express (TPE) offering for regional operators. TPE is designed to enable such carriers to cost-effectively provide voice, data, and IP video services to local and regional communities and position themselves to deliver additional IP-based services in the future.
Alcatel-Lucent says its TPE is tailored to regionally focused operators, utilities, and municipalities in North America. Such opertors “want to avoid installing a system that is too large, or too complex for their needs,” the company says. As an alternative, TPE offers an end-to-end approach to quickly launch interactive TV services that fits the size of their subscriber base. TPE can support an initial 5,000 IPTV subscribers and scale up to 40,000 subscribers.
"With the attention created by the Broadband Stimulus program in the United States, the introduction of this solution -- serving regional operators -- couldn't have been more timely," says Teresa Mastrangelo, principal analyst at broadbandtrends. "Alcatel-Lucent's TPE solution nicely complements a number of other initiatives the company has been taking recently, including the introduction of a program that helps US-based operators apply for broadband stimulus funding."
"Triple Play Express not only leverages Alcatel-Lucent's unsurpassed product and service portfolio and expertise; it builds on a wide ecosystem of experienced IPTV partners, and encompasses content licensing, management and distribution," says Charles Marsh, vice president of sales for major accounts for Alcatel-Lucent's Americas region.
