Indonesian operator MNC Kabel Mediacom is using fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) and GPON equipment from ZTE Corp. (H: 0763.HK / A: 000063.SZ) to provide connection speeds of up to 200 Mbps and a more interactive online experience to subscribers, the vendor reports.

MNC Kabel Mediacom is a part of Media Nusantara Citra (MNC) Group, the largest media group in Southeast Asia and the only integrated media, broadcasting, entertainment and telecommunication group in Indonesia, according to ZTE. MNC is using the new network to expand its business by entering the broadband Internet service provider and cable pay TV market in Indonesia, under the brand MNC Play Media Service. Once completed, MNC Kabel Mediacom’s fiber to the premises (FTTP) network will connect at least 2 million homes in at least 10 major cities across Indonesia.

“We selected ZTE's solutions over other solutions for its capabilities to provide end-to-end solution and service platform that has been proven globally,” said Ade Tjendra, commercial director at MNC Kabel Mediacom. “This strategic partnership will help us to deliver higher broadband internet speed and richer interactive multimedia content to a wider market in Indonesia.”

ZTE says its FTTH products deliver bandwidth of up to 10 Gbps and low-latency transmission (less than 1 ms), providing a reliable and stable connection that is ideal for next-generation multimedia and interactive applications. ZTE says its FTTH equipment has been deployed by operators around the world, including Spain’s Jazztel and Colombia’s ETB (see “ZTE provides turnkey FTTH network for Jazztel in Spain”).

“ZTE is proud to be the strategic partner of MNC Kabel Mediacom in providing the most advanced broadband connection technology,” said Mei Zhonghua, president director of ZTE Indonesia. “The new network, which is supported by our leading GPON-based FTTH infrastructure, will provide great competitive benefits to MNC Kabel Mediacom by enabling higher bandwidth to deliver richer interactive multimedia content and improved customer experience.”
