NTT (Tokyo) has announced its high-speed optical access system`s selection by a standardization study group (T-SG15) at the International Telecommunication Union as an international standard. International recognition of this system--integral to the fiber-to-the-home (ftth) concept that connects telephone exchanges to homes and offices--could facilitate mass production of ftth equipment and timely implementation of a full range of multimedia services.
