Truespeed taps Adtran for XGS-PON FTTP deployment in South West England
Adtran Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of ADTRAN Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADTN and FSE: QH9), says it will supply XGS-PON technology to UK broadband service provider Truespeed for a fiber to the premises (FTTP) deployment across the South West of England. Truespeed will use the XGS-PON fiber network to offer services of up to 900 Mbps to residential customers and to 10 Gbps to business customers.
In addition to enabling higher-speed services, the high-density XGS-PON optical line terminals (OLTs) will enable Truespeed to roll out FTTP infrastructure with fewer above-ground cabinets than would be the case with GPON, says Adtran. Truespeed will see both cost savings and increased network efficiency and sustainability, Adtran states.
Truespeed has embarked on a footprint expansion program after landing £100 million ($135.5 million) in funding early last year (see "UK’s Truespeed lands £100 million for FTTP roll out"). “Too often, broadband providers fail to deliver services that match their marketing hype. At Truespeed, we do things differently. We’re harnessing the most advanced software-defined access innovations available to provide fiber connectivity all the way into our customers’ homes and business premises. With Adtran’s open and programmable technology, we can guarantee ultra-fast speeds and 24/7 reliability,” said James Lowther, CEO of Truespeed. “We’ve already passed over 60,000 properties with our full-fiber network, and we aim to increase that to half a million by 2025. Thanks to Adtran’s innovation and the dedicated support of its team, we’re confident we can achieve our goal.”
Adtran has previously supplied Truespeed with XGS-PON technology for its fiber broadband network (see "UK’s Truespeed deploys XGS-PON FTTH with Adtran"). “We’re working closely with Truespeed to support their mission of bringing high-speed broadband to even more people, communities, and businesses across the South West of England. Their team shares our passion for closing the digital divide and ensuring that everyone has access to reliable, lightning-fast internet services, regardless of where they live,” commented Ronan Kelly, CTO of EMEA and APAC regions at Adtran.
