TiniFiber unveils micro-armor FTTH cable

July 13, 2017
TiniFiber has applied its Micro Armor Fiber technology to the fiber to the home (FTTH) space. The fiber-optic cable developer now offers Micro Armor FTTH cable in one- and two-strand single-mode fiber configurations. The use of the Micro Armor technology and a pair of steel strength members enables armored pushable fiber-optic cable, TiniFiber says.

TiniFiber asserts its patented technology enables armored cable that is 65% smaller and 75% lighter than those based on a traditional aluminum interlocking armor (AIA) approach. The use of stainless steel instead of aluminum also improves strength and reliability, the company adds. Meanwhile, network operators will continue to enjoy such armored cable benefits as increase durability and rodent resistance in both aerial and buried applications.

Applied to the FTTH environment, the 3-mm-diameter fiber cable demonstrated push installations in excess of 300 ft (and as far as 400 ft) in trials and various pathway conduits. The use of a push technique is more economical and efficient than air-blown fiber approaches, TiniFiber says. Installation requires no special training for technicians, the company says. Pre-terminated versions for turn-key multiple-dwelling unit (MDU) and business fiber connectivity are available as well.
