March 21, 2006 Boston, MA and Herndon, VA -- Hibernia Atlantic and RCN Business Solutions announced a partnership to provide transatlantic bandwidth services to the enterprise markets of Boston and New York City. In the partnership, Hibernia Atlantic, a provider of transatlantic transport services, will connect into RCN's conduit and fiber metro routes in both cities. RCN will provide connectivity to local businesses in the cities' enterprise, wholesale carrier, and government account sectors.
Hibernia Atlantic says the deal will provide RCN with security and route diversity via Hibernia's transatlantic network, the cable routes of which do not traverse "traditional, congested oceanic routes" such as the UK's Bude, Sennen, and Porthcurno areas or the Long Island, NY and NJ beach waterways of the United States. Hibernia notes that the majority of other transatlantic backhaul routes occupy these congested underwater and terrestrial backhauls.
"With more than 9,500 route miles of fiber-optic and coaxial cable at the company's disposal, RCN Business Solutions is our first choice for access into the metro business arena," comments Eric Gutshall, VP of sales and marketing for Hibernia Atlantic. "Due to the company's backbone network, RCN Business Solutions' network is built into many enterprise locations that best suit our end customers. RCN also continues to target strategic network expansion to create a more robust network. For our NYC and Boston business markets, RCN Business Solutions is our primary partner."
"Both companies also share a common objective to deliver high quality service over a fast and secure network to our customers," adds Howard Smith, VP of marketing and sales for RCN Business Solutions. " Hibernia Atlantic offers us a diverse path across the ocean out of either NY or Boston. Our customers will benefit from an optimal solution delivered by Hibernia with an extensive suite of network services, large bandwidth capacity, and millisecond latency."
